“Many patients who are diagnosed with cancer experience hair loss as a result of the treatment they receive. This adds to the stress and trauma of dealing with a cancer diagnosis. However the University Hospitals of Leicester run a comprehensive Hair Loss Service, situated within the newly built Macmillan Cancer Information Centre.
The centre has a fully fitted room to cater for clients experiencing hair loss. Clients are seen by an experienced hairdresser and consultations are usually by appointment only. An initial referral is required in order to access this service: the staff can advise you on how you can be referred to the service
There is an extensive range of wigs and the majority of clients take their wig home on the same day.
There is also an ‘alternative’ head wear shop, where you can purchase hats, scarves and other useful items.”
The Hair Loss Service is also available for clients suffering from non-cancer conditions leading to hair loss.
The Hair Loss Service is also supported by the Macmillan Cancer Information Team.
You can drop into the centre, Monday to Friday between 9:00am to 4:30pm to chat to a member of staff about the Hair Loss Service or anything related to cancer.
